Short Story



 
       My girlfriend, Amelia, and I have been dating for two years. We have an apartment together in New York, New York. Things between us are going great! In fact, tonight I am taking Amelia out on a romantic date and at the end of the night I am going to take her to Central Park to walk around. As we walk around the park looking at the view of the city I am going to get down on one knee and ask her to marry me.

            It was finally time to get ready for my night with Amelia. I put on my best pair of pants, shirt, and tie and waited for Amelia to finish getting ready. I watched her as she applied her makeup and I thought to myself how lucky I am to have Amelia in my life. As she put on her high heels and took one last look in the mirror she looked at me with her amazing smile and asked, “Do I look okay or should I change?” I looked at Amelia with a smile and said, “You do not look okay, you look outstanding! Why would I want you to change when you look amazing in everything you wear?” She smiled that lovely smile of hers and told me she loves me and could not ask for anyone better. We both turned to get our coats and head towards the door for amazing night together.

            Once we left everything I planned had gone perfectly. The dinner at Blue Hill was outstanding and the show we saw was amazing. The most magical part of the night though was when we went for that walk around Central Park. I could not stop thinking how lucky I truly am to have Amelia. She is gorgeous and she could have any man in the world and yet she picked me. No matter what she does or what she wears she always looks outstanding. When I got down on one knee I knew I was making the right choice. I pulled out the ring and asked her, “Will you marry me?” and Amelia smiled that pretty smile of hers once more and said, “YES!”

Miley Cyrus is a pop singer-songwriter. In the summer of 2007 Miley released the song “I Miss You”. Even though the song never did reach number one does not mean it is not still a wonder song. In “I Miss You” Miley expresses her feelings about losing a loved one, which many can relate to. In the narrative song “I Miss You” by Miley Cyrus, Miley does and extraordinary job at expressing her feelings through personification.

Throughout her song, “I Miss You”, Miley Cyrus expresses the feeling of losing a loved one. One particular line that shows how she cannot let go of her loved one is “my heart won’t let you go”. This one line is personification. It sounds like the heart is holding onto this love she has for this person that has passed away. In reality a heart cannot hold onto something. By using this line Miley is saying that she still loves this person and will never stop letting this feeling of loving them go away.

In conclusion, Miley Cyrus does an extraordinary job at expressing her feelings of losing a loved one through personification in her song “I Miss You”.

Myths/Legends

Myth 1-   After hearing about Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil some question if it really can happen.  Legend has it that Robert had disappeared one day and when he finally returned he was a wonderful guitar player. While Robert was gone he had sold his soul to the devil in order to play the guitar. The catch was that the guitar could never leave him. Even if Robert tried to get rid of it the guitar would find its way back to Robert.  Robert Johnson eventually realizes he made a mistake and tries talking to the devil but the devil does not help.

Myth 2- Most legends can be false. For example, people believe that Ozzy Osbourne intended to bit the head off a bat during his concert. This is false because Ozzy thought he was bitting the head off a rubber bat. He realized something was wrong when he felt blood going down his chin and when he had a really bad after taste.

Myth 3- One of the most famous myths is Abbey Roads death. Abbey had got into a car accident on November 9, 1966 and the impact killed him. This left the Beatles the question of what to do. They decided to find an Abbey look alike so nobody would actually know he had passed away. When their new album came out questions began. In the album cover Abbey is dressed all in white symbolizing death. The car’s license plate says 28IF meaning that if if he were alive he would be 28. Many then began to figure out that Abbey had passed away and that the Beatles got a replacement.

Myth 4-One myth that many are unhappy about is Bob Dylan going electric. Bob was great acoustic player and people loved to hear him. He had decided to go electric at a festival and his fans were not happy about the choice.

Myth 5- Some believe Elvis Presley is dead but some do not. The ones that do not think this is because there have been many sightings of Elvis in stores or just walking around. They also think he is alive because on his grave stone his name is spelt wrong. Instead of spelling his middle name, Aron, with one “a” it is spelt with two. However, just because there are sightings so believe he actually is dead.

                There are many songs in today’s society that describe the way one may feel.   At times one may feel like giving up on a project they are working on or even giving up on a relationship. Yet at times even when one feels like giving up a relationship another maybe falling in love. Or sometimes one may just want to just pick a place and just get away from everything going on around them. Some amazing songs to describe some of these feeling that one may feel are: Deuces by Chris Brown, Teenage Dream by Katy Perry, and Roll With It by Easton Corbin.

                The song Deuces by Chris Brown is a great example of how in today’s society some are struggling with a relationship or another form of a problem and they just give up. In the song Chris is telling this girl that he used to be in love with “deuces”, which means bye/peace. He cannot put up with the relationship anymore and is leaving. In life there always comes a time when one just gives up on trying in their relationship or something that they are working on, and this is exactly what Chris Brown is signing about. Chris knows exactly how it feels to just stop trying just like others in the world do.

                Even though some feel the need to give up on their relationship, others start to fall in love. In the song Teenage Dream by Katy Perry, Katy sings about two people in love. No matter what these two can always feel free to be themselves around each other. The girl does not even have to wear make up with this guy and he will think she is pretty. When they are together it feels like a “teenage dream”, meaning everything to them is perfect. So many people in society today are falling in love or are already in love and they feel extremely happy with the person they are with. So even though some people may feel like saying bye to one they had once cared about there are still people showing that they love someone in this world.  

                At one point in life one will just feel the need to escape from everything they have going on. Easton Corbin’s song, Roll With It, is a great example of this feeling. In the song Easton tells his wife to just pick a place on the map and to pack her things because that is where they are going. They just stop whatever they had planned and go on a trip to get away from their “ordinary everyday rut”. This is saying that in today’s society one feels like just stopping what they are doing and just leaving town for a day or two to just relax and live life instead of doing the same old thing every day. Some do not just have this thought and ignore it; they actually get up and do it. So even in today’s society one may just want to escape from life.

                In conclusion, the songs that song writers are writing today describe how one may feel in today’s society. One person maybe wanting to end things with someone they have spent a lot of time with and once cared about. Another person maybe even falling in love with who they think is the right person for them. Or one can even feel like getting out of their everyday routine and just go on a vacation. So even though one may not think it the song they are actually listening to on the radio or on their ipod actually relates to how one may feel.

Love Story- Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is a country pop singer-songwriter who is loved by many. In September 2008 Taylor Swift released the song “Love Story”. By November “Love Story” reached the top of the Billboard Country Chart. In the song Taylor writes in first person narrative about two people in love that have to hide their relationship from their parents. It is also ironic because Taylor relates the relationship to Romeo and Juliet. However, is the story told in “Love Story” really like the story Romeo and Juliet?

            Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. Two people from two different families end up meeting and falling in love. Romeo and Juliet have to hide their relationship from their families, but when the parents found out everything went wrong. Romeo and Juliet decide to run away together so they can have a life of their own. Things however did not go as planned and Romeo kills himself because he thought the love of his life, Juliet, was dead. After he died Juliet saw his dead body and killed herself. In the end what Romeo and Juliet thought would be a happy ending turned out to be a tragic one instead.

            In the song “Love Story” by Taylor Swift, Taylor compares the couple’s relationship to the story of Romeo and Juliet. However, the song does not fully go along with the actual story. In “Love Story” two people meet at a young age and fall in love. Just like in Romeo and Juliet, their families do not get along with one another. They sneak around without their parents knowing. Unlike like Romeo and Juliet the two people in “Love Story” do not plan on running away. Instead, the guy in “Love Story” decides to ask the girl’s father for her hand in marriage and the father finally said yes. In the end the story told in “Love Story” by Taylor Swift has a happy ending.

            Taylor Swift is a great song writer that wrote about two people in love. She related this relationship to the story Romeo and Juliet. It is ironic because Taylor’s version of the story has a happy ending. In the real story there is no happy ending. Two people kill themselves because they could not live without one another.
